Methodology
How we label our data
Transparency about our transparency — what each label on VetPricelist means, where it comes from, and how to correct it if it's wrong.
Price confidence labels
Every price we show is labelled with where it came from and when we last checked it. We compute this fresh on every page load from the underlying source and date — not a label that can silently go stale.
RCVS verified
The price comes from the RCVS-verified practice price feed, once that feed is live (rolling out through 2026–2027 under the CMA Order).
Published by practice
The price was read directly from the practice's own published price list — either their website or a document they've shared with us — and entered by our team.
User reported
A pet owner submitted this price, typically from a recent invoice or quote. It's reviewed by our team before publishing but hasn't been independently re-confirmed with the practice.
May be outdated
The price hasn't been re-checked in over 90 days. Prices change — always confirm the final cost with the practice before booking.
Ownership labels
Corporate consolidation affects pricing, so we label ownership on every listing. We only ever state independence when we have positive evidence for it — an absent corporate group is not treated as proof of independence.
Independent
No corporate group is disclosed for this practice, and we've positively confirmed independence (e.g. the practice's own site states it, or we've actively ruled out a corporate-group match) — recorded with a source note.
Independent (unverified)
We have no corporate group on file, but haven't yet confirmed independence either. This is deliberately not shown as "Independent" outright — absence of a corporate match isn't proof of independence, only absence of evidence.
A named group (e.g. "CVS Group")
The practice discloses or we've matched a corporate parent group. Known large groups (CVS Group, IVC Evidensia, Medivet, Vets4Pets, VetPartners, Linnaeus, and similar) are shown distinctly from smaller 2–10 site groups.
How we make money — and what it never affects
Practices can pay for a Standard or Premium listing, which gets them a “Featured” label and placement above organic results on the search page — this is always visibly labelled, never hidden or disguised as an organic result.
What a paid listing never changes
Paying us never changes the price a practice is shown as charging, never removes a cheaper practice from your results, and never affects a practice's confidence label, ownership label, or RCVS verification status. Those come from the underlying data, not from billing status.
We don't take referral fees or commission
We're not paid per booking or per click-through to a practice, so we have no incentive to steer you towards one practice over another based on anything but the data on the page.
